Treating Acne Scarring

When is the best time to take care of the scarring from acne?

Our Daddy MD Guide’s reply: The best time is before the scarring from acne happens. By this, I mean that scarring happens typically when acne isn’t attended to promptly. Some parents have the attitude that the acne will take care of itself, and any scarring is easy to “laser off.” This couldn’t be further from the truth.

In reality, scarring is very difficult to treat. Lasers have a mild effect, but nowhere near the benefit of treating acne at the time and avoiding scarring. If necessary, drugs such as Accutane can make significant changes in acne, resulting in complete clearing in most patients who take it.
